Thursday, October 2, 2014 -- HBCU Distance Recruitment Event:
On Thursday morning, October 2, 2014, from 8:30 until 10:45 am, Westwood High School students will have an opportunity to participate in the Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCU) Distance Recruitment Event . Using our new distance learning lab, students will be able interact with recruiters via video-conferencing from HBCU's across the country. Recruiters from the participating HBCU's will be divided into two groups and broadcast from one location. Our site will connect with these two groups of recruiters to learn more about these historic and prestigious institutions. The recruiters will offer college-bound students information on individual schools, scholarship opportunities, general college application information (including hints and tips for applicants), and information on college and university life. Please see Ms. Faulkenberry in room 323 for your permission form. This event is open for the first 30 students who complete and return their permission forms.
Friday, October 3, 2014 -- 2014 RedHawk College Tailgate
On Friday, October 3rd, 2014 from 5 - 7:30 pm, we will be hosting our second RedHawk College Tailgate in the parking lot across from the stadium. This is a great opportunity for you and your families to meet the college admissions counselors and learn more about the offerings at their respective institutions in a relaxed, fun environment. The following schools will be in attendance Friday evening:
Tuesday, October 7, 2014 -- COLLEGE APPLICATION DAY
Next Tuesday, October 7th, 2014 is College Application Day here at Westwood High School! Students will be coming into the media center to apply to college during their English, Government and /or Economics classes. Students can also come before school or during lunch. The event will run from 8am until 4pm. Admissions counselors from many local colleges will be present to help students with the admissions process. In preparation for this event, you will need to:

Francis Marion University Interview Day is coming to Westwood High School on Thursday, October 9th! During this event, admissions counselors will review your eligibility for admission to FMU for the fall of 2015. During the interview, the counselors will waive application fees, discuss scholarship opportunites that FMU has to offer you, and make on-the-spot admission decisions! Please take advantage of this fantastic opportunity!
To sign up for FMU Interview Day, please see Ms. Faulkenberry in Room 323. You will have to pick up and application, complete it, and return it to Ms. Faulkenberry by lunchtime on Wednesday, October 8th.

- Know where you want to apply for college
- Bring your completed Student Booklet with you
- Have a plan for application fees
- Print application fee waivers from your CollegeBoard account, if you are eliglble OR
- Be prepared to pay application fees with a credit or debit card
- Write required essays or personal statements, have them proof-read and in a final version saved on a flash drive or in Google Drive that you can easily access
- Gather any additional information you may need to complete your applications
- Know your social security number
- Know relevant parent information required on applications
